This month's Neighborhood Spotlight takes us to Emmaus, a borough in Lehigh County about five miles southwest of Allentown. Founded in 1759 as a closed Moravian community and incorporated in 1859, Emmaus pairs a walkable, independent downtown with a well-used community park and a housing market that moves quickly. Here is the current market snapshot and what makes the borough worth a closer look.

Emmaus Market Snapshot: October 2026

The most recent published figures for Emmaus and the 18049 ZIP code show a competitive, fast-moving market. Redfin's latest snapshot for the 18049 ZIP puts the median sale price near $381,000, with homes selling in about 9 days on average. Zillow reports Emmaus's average home value around $377,000, up roughly 3.6% year over year, with about 30 homes for sale in the 18049 ZIP through mid-2026.

As with any local market, figures vary by source and by month, so these numbers are a directional snapshot rather than a single authoritative figure. If you are thinking about buying or selling in Emmaus, Tim pulls the freshest comparables and listing data for the exact street you are watching. Call or text (484) 275-0056 for the current picture.

A Walkable Downtown on Main Street

Emmaus's compact downtown centers on Main Street, where independent shops, boutiques, restaurants, a brewery, a distillery, and a theater sit within easy walking distance of one another. The borough hosts street festivals through the year and a downtown farmers market, so the center of town stays active beyond the workweek.

For a meal after a walk through town, a few local favorites include Armetta's Italian Restaurant & Pub at 301 Main Street, Superior at 102 Main Street, and East Penn Diner at 1418 Chestnut Street. Tijuana Tacos at 620 State Avenue rounds out the dining scene with a Mexican menu in a converted bank building.

Parks and Recreation

Emmaus Community Park on Shimerville Road is the borough's main outdoor destination. The roughly 59-acre park includes a walking trail that crosses Leibert Creek, baseball and softball fields, a multi-purpose field, basketball and volleyball courts, a playground, and multiple rentable picnic pavilions, including the Performing Arts Pavilion. The seasonal Emmaus Community Pool opens each year from Memorial Day through Labor Day.

Landmarks and Local History

Emmaus holds some of the Lehigh Valley's oldest places. The Shelter House at 601 South 4th Street, built in 1734, is believed to be the oldest continuously occupied structure in the Lehigh Valley and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The 1803 House at 55 South Keystone Avenue is a restored stone home museum that interprets life in the early 1800s, and the borough also maintains the historic Knauss Homestead. The Emmaus Moravian Church stands as another anchor of the town's heritage.

Schools

Emmaus is served by the East Penn School District, headquartered at 800 Pine Street in Emmaus. The district's official website is eastpennsd.org. Emmaus High School, home of the Green Hornets, is located at 500 Macungie Avenue, with its own page at eastpennsd.org/ehs. Families researching the area can find enrollment, program, and calendar details on the district site.

The Bottom Line on Emmaus

Emmaus offers a genuine small-town center, a large community park, and quick access to Allentown and the rest of the Lehigh Valley, all served by a single school district. With homes selling in about nine days on average, the market rewards buyers who are pre-approved and ready to move, and sellers who price accurately from day one.
